Lucija Romanova

Private Residency October 2024

Summoning and glitching.

A moment from an ongoing research 24/25.

The core thesis of the research is decoding how sound frequencies, in this case - the voice, engage a dancers body as responsive vessel and how its sonic engagement affects their corporeal and emotional composition in the realm of improvisational/performative narratives.

The Disposable Man

Performance Space Residency July 2022

Choregrapher & Dancer: Emese Nagy

Dancer: Zsófia Safranka-Peti

“We will create a gladiator arena of populism, kitsch, bragging, social herding, false self-awareness, where everything is built on reputation and snobbery. Whoever enters the arena, takes on the role and character of a “little man”, maintains the appearance of believing "everyone in their own story is the hero." Our urge is to explore the human condition in a spirit of serious enquiry without excluding humour and satire.”

Broken Hip and The Unbreakable Spirit

Performance Space Residency July 2022

Choreographer and Artistic Director: Lucija Romanova Musical Producer: Alex Paton

Dramaturgy: Sam Amos

It's in the yearn and the rumble/tumble off the riffs where they find their dream home.

Is it just another dance performance?

Or a promo tour for their new album?

Perhaps it's a breath of fresh air or a sentiment for the past.

All naked and mindless

My ego is ripe now.

The Unbreakable Spirit, What have you done now?

These hips that are broken

Don't let them surrender.

Make them cut more deep,

My voice - so tender.

Dancers: Stephanie Dufresne & Sophie Hutchinson

Fiddle: Eoghan Neff Uilleann pipes: Colleen Shanks

Director: Laura Sheeran

“Being half-Irish and half-American I think I’m always trying to figure out where I fit in the world, and the traditional songs Eoghan plays, connect me with Irish culture in a way that goes beyond the verbal, rational or logical. I think trad music voices a keening we cannot articulate; the soundtrack to generations of emigration and return. Who we are as the next generation of Irish artists, is still in flux. How can we pay homage to what has come before, while also setting the tone for what is to come?”

Floating on a Dead Sea

Catherine Young

2021

A peek into rehearsals for "FLOATING ON A DEAD SEA" at Shawbrook & Ramallah as part of Dublin Dance Festival Winter 2021 Edition.

Interweaving dance, film, music and text, Floating on a Dead Sea is a visceral reflection on one of the most complex and unresolved conflicts in the world; a glimpse of the Palestine we don’t often get to see. Inspired by Young’s own experiences of the country and people since first visiting in 2017, this profoundly moving new work offers a chance to listen more deeply to voices seldom heard.
